Maple Grove is Going Green with Solar Power
The city of Maple Grove is going green. As part of sustainability efforts, a new solar panel installation has gone up at the city’s water treatment plant with another under construction on the public works facility. The solar panels will pay for themselves in 7 to 15 years and then provide free energy, more or less, for the remainder of their 25 to 40 year lifespan. That adds up to impressive long-term savings on the city’s energy costs: $80,000 or more in annual savings for the city. The solar projects are part of overall city efforts to improve energy efficiency, like changing over to LED lighting and improving building weatherization.
