Maple Grove City Officials And Homeowners Saving Time With Online Inspections Scheduling
Property owners in Maple Grove can now schedule most building inspections online.
The City of Maple Grove now offers online scheduling for many building inspections.
“Certain inspections, such as water heater replacement, furnace replacements, up to a lot of electrical stuff, we allow the owner or the contractor to schedule online, so that way it works in their time frame,” said City of Maple Grove Chief Building Official Colby Cartney. “It is an AM/PM type of scheduling, so there is a window, kind of like if you got an appliance delivered, you have a window. We try and call 20 to 40 minutes ahead of time, but we will be there sometime in that window. It allows the homeowner to be somewhat involved in that process.”
Colby said the city has about a dozen full-time inspectors who can perform up to 3,500 inspections each per year.
“If there’s five inspections for a property, and you tag that with one plan review, so it adds up very quickly, so there’s a lot of time going into it,” he said. “A lot of times, we are booking way out and have a lot to catch up on.”
“We still get plenty of phone calls, but by having people schedule online, it’s taking away and giving us free time to help customers at the counter and take other phone calls,” said Permit Tech Wendy Nelson.
