Local Police Team Up with Hennepin County Social Worker
The way that police officers serve our communities has grown quite a bit over the years.
As Chief Tim Hoyt of the New Hope Police Department says, “I think they’ve been stretched, in some cases where dealing with mental health issues, we’re a good bandaid, but we’re looking for more than a bandaid. We’re looking for long term solutions. Better Solutions.”
And that’s where Asha Mohamud comes in, “I am a Hennepin County Social Worker embedded in the New Hope, Robbinsdale and Crystal Departments. I directly receive referrals from all three departments, and I follow up on those referrals. And this partnership allow us to connect individuals in our community to community resources, and that will, the goal is to connect them to resources and ensure that they have, that they’re in a better position to live, um, a better life, and also to keep them from reaching crisis.”
