Golden Valley’s Road Construction Project: Updates and Road Closures
Golden Valley residents and commuters have likely encountered the extensive road construction project currently underway at the intersection of Highway 55 and Douglas Drive.
Construction crews have spent the summer installing a mini roudabout and underground tunnel across from the Perpich Center for Arts Education.
And as the project nears completion, people traveling through the city should be aware of impending road closures.
“Crews are continuing to relocate some utilities on the north side of 55 to move them out of the way in preparation for the new pedestrian tunnel that’s going to be installed under Highway 55,” explained RJ Kakach, Assistant City Engineer, Golden Valley
“Highway 55 will be closed for a duration of 10 days starting on October 4, with the designated detour route for Highway 55 travelers being Highway 169, Highway 394 and Highway 100,” Kakach.
Before the highway closure, a portion of Douglas Drive will also experience a temporary shutdown.
“Beginning on September 11, Douglas Drive will be closed for an estimated 60 days between Highway 55 and the frontage road,” Kakach stated.
To stay informed about the project’s progress and any changes in road closures, the city encourages individuals who use this section of road to sign up for email updates.
Detailed information about the project, including closure details, detour routes and important dates, can be found on the website.
