Golden Valley’s Civic Center Re-Do Gaining “National Attention” From Developers
Work continues toward the design phase of the major piece of Golden Valley’s years-long process to re-imagine its core city buildings at its civic center campus, and now residents are reminded they can keep up with the process online.

The City of Golden Valley is two years into its Building Forward program.
“Our residents and business owners and visitors can visit BuildingForwardGV.org to get more information,” said Emily Goellner, the city’s community and economic development director. “So while we’re doing careful planning and coordination, our schedules may still shift due to a variety of factors related to the construction industry, so the city remains very committed to transparency and we’re updating this website very regularly.”
The city recently received nearly two dozen proposals for redesigning the civic center campus, which includes city hall, the public safety buildings, the Hennepin County library branch, and relocating the public works facility.
“We’re receiving national-level attention to help design the campus,” said Deputy Community Development Director Chloe McGuire. “This is going to be a huge legacy project, once-in-a-lifetime type work, so we’re excited that we received so many proposals.” McGuire said a committee is reviewing the proposals and should have a recommendation to city council by the end of the year.
McGuire said construction won’t begin until 2027 at the earliest.
“This is a huge project with a really long timeline, and purposefully so. We want to build in enough time to make sure our residents are engaged, our staff to be engaged,” she said. “We anticipate that this will not be built next year. Next year, we’re going to be doing more site design and site preparation, so there’s a lot of time left in the process to engage.”
