Golden Valley Reaching End of 30-Year Pavement Management Plan
Golden Valley plans to reconstruct the bumpy concrete sections of Zane Avenue this construction season, bringing to a close an odyssey of road reconstruction projects that began in 1995. City leaders say that will allow them to focus more on maintenance and case-by-case repairs or resurfacing of existing roads now that all roads–and the utilities below them–are all up to more current standards than when they began.

Golden Valley will reconstruct Zane Avenue this summer, the last of its 30-year pavement management plan projects.
“Rather than rebuilding entire streets and the utilities beneath them, now we’re able to refresh or repair the surface pavement and perform utility improvements with underground work to line our sewer pipes and keep things running,” said City Engineer Michael Ryan. “This 30-year effort we undertook, which was one of the first of its kind in the Twin Cities metro, really brought a lot of resiliency, quality, and durability to a lot of the city’s infrastructure.”
Now, the city can focus on its evolving Infrastructure Renewal Plan.
“We’re again going through an intensive planning effort to make sure we’re doing this strategically and cost-effectively,” said Ryan. “The Infrastructure Renewal Plan will be available for public feedback. The city’s website has a lot of great information on the upcoming Infrastructure Renewal Plan, and there are opportunities to get involved, whether that’s on the website or through different community events.”
