Golden Valley Leaders Continue Gathering Input About Downtown
There’s still time to have your voice heard about future development, accessibility concerns and needs, and wayfinding in downtown Golden Valley.
The city put out a survey earlier this year to gauge input on what residents and business owners in the city’s core business district want to see as the city works to develop–or redevelop–the area in the future.
“We’ve heard everything from a grocery store to making it more accessible for biking and walking when crossing the street,” said Christine Costello, the city’s housing and economic development manager. “We’re hoping to take that and put it in a final plan as areas within downtown Golden Valley redevelop, we have an implementation of both short- and long-term strategies.”
Costello and her staff have fanned out to public events like Pride and Concerts in the Park to talk with residents about what they want to see for downtown. So far, she said they’ve had about 300 interactions.
“We wanted to take a look at the public users realm, in terms of how people get around downtown, the accessibility, the vibrancy,” she said. “The previous study looked at redevelopment efforts, so this will hopefully tie that in.”
Costello said there will likely be another virtual open house soon to try to gather as much input before a plan can be formulated and presented to both the planning commission and then the city council for approval, perhaps by the end of the year.
