Golden Valley Fire Department Hosts Fire Prevention Week Open Houses on Oct. 12
Golden Valley Fire Department will celebrate Fire Prevention Week (October 6-12) with open houses at all three fire stations on Saturday, October 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
“It’s a great chance for the public to come to their local fire station, meet their local firefighters, check out the trucks, and check out the equipment,” said Chief Bethany Brunsell.
Free COVID and flu vaccines will also be available during the event at Station One only for those with proof of insurance and who are age 3 and older.
Brunsell said the goal is to allow as many people as possible to come in and meet firefighters in their neighborhoods. The city also hosts a larger Public Safety Open House every summer.
“It’s a little bit more of a small-scale thing, maybe less intimidating for those who don’t want to be around big crowds, or have small children. So, it’s a great chance to have a more casual, low-key event with our firefighters,” she said.
The theme for Golden Valley Fire Department this year is: smoke alarms.
“(We) really want to encourage people to make sure they have smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, that they test them every month, and replace their smoke alarms at least every ten years,” said Brunsell.
