Golden Valley Expects a Handful of Major Road Projects This Summer
Drivers in Golden Valley have a handful of road construction projects to plan around this summer, including work done by city, county, and state crews.
Assistant City Engineer R.J. Kakach shared some of the details of those projects with CCX Media. City projects include reconstruction of decades-old pavement along Duluth Street near its intersection with Winnetka Avenue. He also mentioned water main replacement along Adair Avenue near the intersection with Duluth Street and the replacement of a lift station near Schaper Park, just north of Highway 55.
“We’re also going to be moving it out of the flood plain because that’s a concern when we have a sanitary sewer lift station in a flood plain, so we’ll be moving that up to higher ground,” said Kakach, who said it should only really affect traffic close to and in the neighborhood around the park, and it could also have an impact on water service, just like the water main project.
County To Repave Near Busy Intersection
Hennepin County has a handful of projects planned this summer, including in Golden Valley. Kakach pointed out the biggest impact may come from some repaving of Duluth Street near Douglas Drive. That area was reconstructed several years ago, and he said the pavement has started wearing out.
“The pavement preservation process is a relatively short process, but we do expect some traffic impacts with that work as they will be putting in a soft closure to get people to go around the area while the work is being performed,” he said.
MNDOT Work on Highway 55
He mentioned MNDOT’s biggest project this summer affecting Golden Valley is mill and overlay work along Highway 55 between General Mills Boulevard and Old Rockford Road. The majority of this work is in Plymouth but Golden Valley does “anticipate some traffic impacts from that as well: night time closures, weekend closures, single-lane closures throughout the summer,” said Kakach.
