Friends of Crystal Parks Hosts Plant Sale on May 18
Every morning, Dan Johnson walks across the street from his house in Crystal and takes in Bassett Creek Park.
“It’s just a great way to start the day. It’s just such a gorgeous park,” said Johnson. “It’s a hidden gem, not everybody knows about this park.”
Johnson is one of many volunteers with Friends of Crystal Parks who help promote, protect, and work with city leaders to make sure the parks have what they need to allow everyone to enjoy them.
“It does take a little extra push,” he said. “I think we all need and value green, open spaces and parks.”
One way you can help support the Friends of Crystal Parks is through the group’s annual Plant Sale, which this year happens on Saturday, May 18 at Becker Park. Johnson said the main thrust is to allow residents to cull their own yards and divide any perennials they may be able to, so that they can sell them to others who want them to help beautify their own yards.
“It helps them absorb nutrients and water,” explained Johnson about dividing the plants. “Not only are you doing good for our parks, but you’re also doing good for your yard or garden.”
Johnson also said the group will offer compost, courtesy of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s organics recycling facility.
