Douglas Drive Project Input in Golden Valley
The City of Golden Valley is planning to construct a pedestrian underpass under Highway 55 at Douglas Drive, by the Perpich Center for the Arts. The underpass will improve safety for students attending the school, many of whom have to cross 6 lanes of traffic to get there. It will also make it easier for pedestrians, and bicyclists in general to safely cross the highway. The city will also build a roundabout on the south side of Highway 55 to improve the flow of traffic into the intersection. The overall plans for the project are in place, and the city will host an open house in early 2022 to present the details, but also to get input on what residents want the finished project to look like, including landscaping, architecture, and possible public art. That open house will take place sometime in January of 2022. The city will incorporate the resident input as it finishes the plans for the project, and construction should take place in 2023.
