Crystal Board and Commission Openings Offer Feel For City Government
Taji Onesirosan said he unexpectedly found an ad in the local paper for commission openings not long after he’d moved to Crystal a few years ago.
“I live very close to Valley Place Park, a beautiful park, and at the time it was recently redone, and we had just had our first kid,” said Onesirosan, who is now a city council member representing section 1. “So I thought okay, park and rec seems like a natural place for me to get involved and learn how this all works at the city level.”
The city offers openings on a variety of its boards and commissions. Applications can be found online.
“Being in the community is more than enough experience, because, first and foremost, city staff educates you incredibly well,” said Onesirosan. “They provide all the information, all the data you need to make informed decisions, but then also you’re working with other commissioners, other people in the community.”
