Celebrate Small Business Saturday in Osseo
Sandwiched between the frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is the more down-to-earth shopping day known as, Small Business Saturday.
It’s a shopping day dedicated to celebrating small businesses and encouraging consumers to buy local. The day has grown in popularity over the years, thanks to support in small cities like Osseo.
“Small Business Saturday is one of the most exciting events for our community here in Osseo,” said Jess Puccini, owner of Thistles & Threads.
The shopping event takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and storeowners will offer a cornucopia of incentives to get shoppers through the doors.
“We have so many stores that are open that are doing sales, discounts, drawings, giveaways, and gift with purchases,” said Teresa Aho, owner of The Black Cabin.
Part of Central Avenue Will Be Closed for Small Business Saturday
The Osseo City Council recently voted to close Central Avenue between Second and Third Streets for Small Business Saturday. The vote took place after a storeowner petitioned the council for the closure, and neighboring businesses supported it.
“Having the street closed is huge for our store, but especially for the safety of the children being able to bounce between the different stores on the street,” said Puccini.
There will be music, fire pits, food trucks, candy, and games for the kids. Grown-up shoppers will have a chance to win a grand prize for visiting every store participating in Small Business Saturday.
“We love to do raffle drawings, so we’ll have special baskets that we’ll be raffling off that will have all of our Minnesota-made vendor items in the baskets to really help small businesses within our community,” said Puccini.
Customers shopping at The Black Cabin will be able to enjoy a more curated experience.
“We’re going to be doing a mini workshop,” said Aho, who sells DIY paint at her store. “I like to incorporate paint into our events, especially Small Business Saturday.”
Small Business Saturday will take place on November 26th.
