Brooklyn Park’s Zanewood Recreation a Hub of Activity This Summer
Inside Zanewood Recreation Center in Brooklyn Park, about 40 grade school-aged kids learned games as they got to know each other on the second day of Summer Fusion on Tuesday.
“The purpose is really just to have a program where kids can come and mingle and have a good time and just know they’re going to get that fun, exciting program that they’re looking for,” said one of the leaders, Anel Braziel, who is a youth program specialist at Zanewood. “A lot of people speak to the fact of if this program wasn’t here, their kids would just be at home, doing nothing.”
It’s an extension of Fusion, which offers after-school care during the school year, she said.
“You get that sense of family and community,” she said.
The city also offers Rec On The Go, a van stocked with games and activities that staff take to various parks and apartment complexes year-round.
“We service the community that aren’t fortunate enough to make it to a recreation center,” said Braziel.
She also mentioned upcoming events like Summer Splash at Zanewood on July 12 and the annual Back to School Barbecue in August.
“I believe that what Zanewood has to offer is truly a blessing to everybody,” said Braziel.
