Brooklyn Park Offers $400 Rebate for Water Efficient Toilet Purchases
The City of Brooklyn Park is offering $400 rebates for the purchase and installation of a water-efficient toilet.

Brooklyn Park is offering $400 rebates for the purchase of more water-efficient toilets.
“We’re pulling up more water than what soaks in from rain and snow melt, so we can’t keep doing that. Aquifers are going down,” said Recycling Manager Tim Pratt. “So we’ve come up with a program to help incentivize folks to use less water. What’s one of the biggest things that uses a lot of water in our homes? Toilets.”
Pratt said residents should look for WaterSense-certified toilets when looking to replace the appliance within the home, something that maybe hasn’t been done in years. WaterSense toilets generally advertise using 1.26 gallons per flush.
“They don’t have a lot of moving parts so they don’t tend to wear out so you don’t replace them as often as you do other appliances,” he said. “They’ve got to be a WaterSense-certified toilet. Those are ones that use 20% less water, and that can save you up to 13,000 gallons of water per year. So, that’s a savings right there, and that’s approximately $170 a year.”
