Brooklyn Center Installs New Digital Signs to Better Inform Public
When you live in a community, you like to know what’s going on.
But with all the influx of information coming at you every day, sometimes things don’t reach your radar.
That’s why Brooklyn Center now has a new tool to keep you informed
Around Thanksgiving, the city installed three new digital message boards.
“I’m super excited about the signs,” says Brooklyn Fire Chief Todd Berg. “They are state-of-the-art. They include weather, the date, temperature, stuff like that so a little bit of your old traditional bank sign as well as electronic message.”
The eye-catching displays are in front of three government buildings.
“We worked for about two years to try and strategically figured out placement, funding, and which kind of signs to use and the placement of the signs are at the west fire station, the east fire station and city hall and the community center at that building,” says Berg.
Having the signs located centrally as well as on east and west side of town increases visibility.
“The majority of community and traffic going in and out of our community are likely going to see these three signs during their travels,” says Berg.
The signs features a variety of community news from citywide related special events to city council meetings.
“Right now on our sign we are promoting Black History Month, we’re promoting all city offices will be closed on President’s Day on Monday just different information like that,” says Berg.
The signs will also feature employment opportunities.
With a 40 thousand dollar price tag a piece, the signs have been a long time in coming.
“It was in our minds to do before covid hit, covid slowed everything down, but in essence, it also gave us some extra federal funding to purchase these signs,” says Berg.
Now that they are here, city officials are thankful for the new way to keep the community informed.
“Not everyone communicates via social media,” says Berg. “Hopefully this will catch more people.”
