Brooklyn Center Builds on Juneteenth Celebrations Each Year
Brooklyn Center hosted its third-annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 15 at Centennial Park.
While persistent rain likely kept overall attendance down, city leaders remained enthusiastic about the continuing momentum they’re building with the event year-to-year.
This year, there were 29 vendors in attendance, representing local businesses, non-profits, healthcare agencies, and other community resources.
“Having these types of events that tap into the different cultures in our community are really important to make sure our community feels seen and we’re providing the services they need,” said the city’s communications manager, Joe Cardoza.
Other officials say events like this are key to connecting as many residents as possible.
“With the city of Brooklyn Center and how diverse we are, we want to make sure that we include everybody that lives in this community,” said Recreational Program Manager Jotika Weitz-Handy. “So, having a Juneteenth event like this is important to the African-American community in particular.”
