Baier Brings Resourcefulness to Role at Osseo City Hall
MaryLou Baier was looking for a change of pace and a job close to home. The longtime marketing professional and 26-year Osseo resident found both when she started as an administrative assistant at city hall in January.
“I love dealing with the public. I love how varied all of the responsibilities are,” said Baier. “I love serving the people of Osseo.”
She answers the main phone line and greets all visitors to the window at the administrative offices portion of city hall.
“Sometimes I have to tell people who come to the desk or on the phone, I’ll say to them: ‘You know what? I don’t know that yet, but we’re both going to learn together. So let me figure it out and answer your question, and then we’ll both know,'” said Baier.
She’s responsible for a myriad of city tasks, including: building permits, managing rentals at the community center, managing the seasonal farmer’s market, managing the digital message board out on Highway 81, and promoting citywide events all year long.
Baier, like many, is gearing up for the third weekend in May, when Osseo will have its citywide garage sale, car show, and pop-up market in Boerboom Park across Central Avenue from city hall.
“It’s going to be a hot time in the old town that weekend!” said Baier with a big smile.
She’s also helping to promote Movies and Music in the Park. All of these events, she said, are quintessential small-town events that bring people together.
“We still very much have a small-town feel and a small-town operation,” she said of Osseo.
