UPDATE: Teen Arrested in Fatal Brooklyn Park Shooting at Hartkopf Park
Police arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with the July 5 fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy at Hartkopf Park, the Brooklyn Park Police Department announced Wednesday.
The suspect is currently being held at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center on probable cause of second-degree murder.
The incident unfolded late Sunday night. Brooklyn Park police responded to reports of gunfire at Hartkopf Park, located at 7300 Florida Ave N., at approximately 10:45 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite immediate attempts by officers to administer lifesaving measures, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Brooklyn Park police K9 searched Hartkopf Park Monday morning.
Following the shooting, investigators maintained a heavy presence at the park into Monday morning. K9 units were brought in to search the grounds, and Brooklyn Park detectives worked alongside Hennepin County crime scene investigators to process evidence.
While initially tight-lipped about potential suspects, the Brooklyn Park Police Department released an update on July 8 confirming that the investigation yielded a breakthrough. In addition to arresting the 17-year-old suspect, police officials say they have recovered the gun believed to have been used in the shooting.
Meanwhile, officials have not yet released the identity of the victim or commented on a potential motive. The investigation remains active.
