Robbinsdale Fire Marshal Greg Bodin Retires After Nearly 40 Years of Service
After nearly four decades of protecting the community, a fixture of Robbinsdale public safety is stepping down. Longtime Fire Marshal Greg Bodin was recently honored at a Robbinsdale City Council meeting for his 38 years of dedicated service to the city.
Bodin first joined the Robbinsdale Fire Department in 1988 and has spent the last 32 years as the city’s fire marshal. In that role, he oversaw local building inspections and led fire investigations.
“He has done a number of things really well,” said Robbinsdale Fire Chief Guy Dorholt. “The bottom line, shoes are going to be hard to fill.”

Bodin’s career extended far beyond the local station. Alongside his work in Robbinsdale, he spent 20 years with the Maple Grove Fire Department, served as a chaplain at North Memorial Health – Robbinsdale Hospital, and deployed during national emergencies as part of a federal medical assistance team. Local students also know him well from the decades he spent teaching fire safety in Robbinsdale Area Schools.
Reflecting on his career during the council recognition, Bodin shared his gratitude — along with a bit of humor about stepping away.
“It’s been my privilege to serve the city of Robbinsdale for these 38 years. I was just a child when I started,” Bodin said. “And yeah, perhaps my shoes may be hard to fill, but these are size 14s, so when you’re my height, you need a big understanding.”
In retirement, Bodin plans to spend more time with his wife, four children and 12 grandchildren, while continuing his volunteer work with local youth.
