Plymouth, Other Cities Impacted by Cyberattack

The city of Plymouth announced Monday that it’s one of a handful cities impacted by a cyberattack. 

According to a post on the city’s Facebook page, the cybersecurity incident impacted communications technology tied to two of the city’s water towers and multiple lift stations. The outage began overnight Sunday, July 26.

“Water levels and water quality are unaffected – the water is safe and there is no need for the public to adjust consumption,” the city said in the post.

The issue appears to have impacted certain automated controls. The city said the issue is “limited to equipment connected via cellular communications within the system.”

Crews have continued operating the system as normal through manual procedures, the city said.

Other cities also announced impacts to its water utility system due to a cyberattack. Those include South St. Paul, Maple Plain and Braham.

The state of Minnesota’s IT Services is helping impacted communities while the source is being investigated.
