OLM Receives $400K To Expand Brooklyn Park Facility

There’s an estimated 35,000 Liberians living in Minnesota, with many of them in Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center.

And thanks to recent legislation, they’ve got a chance to grow their community gathering spaces.

The Minnesota Legislature allocated $400,000 to the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota (OLM) to expand and remodel its Brooklyn Park facility.

“We are very happy,” said OLM executive director Kamaty Diahn. “It’s a fight that we started a couple of years ago. This community has always craved for a community center.”

The allocation was part of this year’s cash bonding bill.

“This appropriation that’s in place is actually overdue that we can do this expansion to carry on most of the programs and service that we provide for our Liberian community,” Diahn said.

According to Diahn, the renovation will make more space for programming that helps youth and seniors.

OLM’s offices are located at 7001 78th Ave. N. Ste 200.
