Newsmakers: Michelle Perdue’s One-Woman Show Takes Aim at Breast Cancer
For Michelle Perdue, Jan. 17, 2017, was the day that changed her life. It was the day she learned she had breast cancer.
Fast forward to today, she has not only survived but thrived.
Perdue is the writer and sole actor in “Thrive: The Journey of Poetically Healing.” The story explores breast cancer through the stories of three women who struggle to overcome the disease but eventually find their way to conquer their fears.
“The characters were original and I’m so glad to allow myself to have that creativity,” said Perdue. “I wanted to create a story that wasn’t based on my life.”
Perdue, who also is an author and motivational speaker, initially performed the show for employees at M Health Fairview. It went over so well she was encouraged to perform the show at local churches.
CCX News asked Perdue what she hopes audiences take away from the play.
“I hope that they walk away with a sense of restored resilience in terms of allowing themselves to embrace who they are with or without their cancer diagnosis,” said Perdue.
She added, “As long as you wake up everyday, you have another opportunity to take control of your life and truly live the life you want to live in spite of your cancer journey.”
