UPDATE: Liberian National Soccer Team vs. Minnesota United Game Canceled Due to Visa Issues

An international friendly exhibition match between Minnesota United and the Liberian National FC has been canceled, according to organizers.
The match was scheduled for July 26 at Allianz Field. However, some members of the Liberian national team and delegation were denied visas to enter the United States. A press release from Strengthening African Resilience Towards Excellence (SARX) said despite months of planning, the necessary travel requirements weren’t completed.
“We are deeply disappointed by this outcome. This event represented more than a football match; it was an opportunity to celebrate Liberia’s independence, showcase Liberian talent on a global stage, strengthen ties with the Diaspora, and bring communities together through the power of sports,” Executive Director Wynfred Russell said in a statement sent by SARX.
For those who already purchased tickets for the game, a SARX spokesperson said all tickets will be refunded between three and 10 business days.

The Minnesota United FC will take on the Liberia national soccer team in late July in an international friendly exhibition match.
The match, organized by Brooklyn Park-based nonprofit SARX, will be held at Allianz Field in St. Paul on July 26.
Frances Tyler, co-founder and operations manager at SARX, said the event is family-friendly and significant for the cities of Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center, which have among the highest concentrations of native Liberians in the country.
“This is more than a soccer game, right? It’s a celebration of culture. Sports is a way to bring the community together, to share in experiences. Also, it’s a way to celebrate the connection between Minnesota and the Liberian community,” Tyler said.

SARX stands for Strengthening African Resilience Towards Excellence. The Brooklyn Park nonprofit’s mission is to advance health equity. The match was made possible by SARX and the Minnesota United. July 26 also offers more cause for celebration: it’s Liberia Independence Day.
“It’s a day we celebrate,” Tyler said. “It’s rather a big deal to Liberians here, and everywhere all around the world. It is going to be an exciting event that we look forward to celebrate.”
The event will also have Liberian music and food options from a variety of local restaurants.
The Liberian team, nicknamed the Lone Stars, is coached by Mohammed Adil Erradi.
Tickets are available on SeatGeek with general admission as low as $30. The game starts that day at 5 p.m.
