New Playground Opens at Crystal’s Forest School Park

The city of Crystal and Robbinsdale Area Schools unveiled new playground equipment at Forest School Park just in time for the new school year.

The park features a new play area, a picnic shelter, benches and tables, and paved trails.

While kids tried out the space for themselves on Tuesday afternoon, city and district leaders held a ribbon cutting to celebrate.

“We’re grateful to everyone who made this possible. It’s an example of what can happen when our schools, our community, our cities come together on behalf of our kids,” Robbinsdale Area Schools Superintendent Teri Staloch said.

It’s designed for both public and school use. During school hours, the school gets priority. Outside of school hours, the community does.

Local leaders say it is a partnership that’s been in place since the 1960s.

The playground design was voted on by school families. It offers swings, slides and plenty of places to climb and explore.

A Hennepin County grant, as well as city and School District 281 funds, paid for the project.
