Metro Transit Proposes New Bus Route Serving Plymouth, Golden Valley

Metro Transit is planning to create a new bus route that would serve riders in Plymouth and Golden Valley.

According to a press release from the agency, it would operate in the Highway 55 corridor with service to the Plymouth City Center, Golden Valley City Hall and the surrounding retail area, as well as downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota.

“Trips between Plymouth and downtown Minneapolis would run every 30 minutes every day, the first time that all-day service has been provided in the Highway 55 corridor,” the press release reads.

It comes as Metro Transit is also proposing expanded bus service along the METRO Green Line Light Rail Extension.

The Green Line LRT Extension is scheduled to open sometime in 2027. Officials expect to announce a more specific opening date this fall.

According to the press release, the new routes would put an additional 14,000 people within a half mile of a bus route with trips at least every half hour throughout the day.

Metro Transit will host several in-person and virtual meetings to collect feedback on the proposed routes.

Those meetings are scheduled for:

• Wednesday, Sept. 16, 6-7 p.m., Hopkins Center for the Arts, 1111 Mainstreet, Hopkins
• Monday, Sept. 21, 6-7 p.m., Linden Hills Recreation Center, 3100 W 43rd St., Minneapolis
• Wednesday, Sept. 23, 6-7 p.m., Golden Valley City Hall, 7800 Golden Valley Rd, Golden Valley
• A virtual meeting will also be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24.  

Once the public comment period closes, the Metropolitan Council will be asked to endorse the new route in the form of an amendment to Metro Transit’s service improvement framework.
