Maple Grove Townhome Proposal Tabled Until Sept. 8

A proposal to build townhomes in southwest Maple Grove has been tabled to a September city council meeting while the developer works out access issues with a nearby existing townhome development.

M/I Homes is proposing 12 buildings containing 86 townhome units near Bass Lake Road and County Road 101 on a 9-acre site between the Windrose townhomes and Maple Creek Park. The site is currently used as Hanson Implement and Storage.

The proposed Maple Creek Townhomes feature modern architecture with open-gable framing. Each townhome unit would contain a two-car garage and two driveway parking spaces.

The Maple Grove Planning Commission recommended approval of a concept stage plan at its Aug. 10 meeting.

The planning commission had previously tabled the proposal over concerns about pedestrian safety, primarily children walking to and from bus stops on narrow private streets proposed within the development. Those concerns have since been addressed with the addition of sidewalks planned on one side.

The Maple Grove City Council tabled the concept plan, the earliest of development stages, at its Aug. 17 meeting. It’s expected to revisit the plan at a meeting Sept. 8.
