Maple Grove Says BioMADE ‘Great Fit’ for Gravel Mining Area
Maple Grove’s rapidly developing gravel mining area will soon be home to BioMADE, a nonprofit company that will act as a large-scale hub for testing biotech products.
“The announcement in Maple Grove is really about the lack of infrastructure here in the United States. Specifically, around piloting infrastructure,” said Jack Starr, BioMADE’s chief manufacturing officer
BioMADE is converting a 122,000-square-foot building near Highway 169 and Elm Creek Blvd that’s been vacant for more than a year year into a new facility that will help companies test their products before full-scale production using Minnesota-grown crops.
Its goal is to boost biomanufacturing in the United States.
BioMADE’s Maple Grove facility will be located at 7500 Meridian Circle North.
The facility in Maple Grove will be a $130 million investment. The state is kicking in $50 million and the Department of Defense is covering the rest.
City officials say they’re excited about what’s to come.
“We think it’s a great fit, not only just for the city itself, but also for the gravel mining area which really has that focus of science technology,” said Joe Hogeboom, Maple Grove’s community and economic development director. “We think it’ll be a great fit in that area.”
Work to convert the building to fit BioMADE’s needs will begin sometime this summer. The new facility is scheduled to open in 2027.
