Lifeguard Skills Put to the Test at New Hope Aquatic Park

Lifeguards from across Minnesota recently descended upon New Hope Aquatic Park, where their rescue skills were put to the test.

Eighteen teams of four competed in the Minnesota Recreation and Park Association Lifeguard Competition, including a team from New Hope. The competition took place Sunday, July 26.

The lifeguard teams were tested on various scenarios, many of them modeled after situations quite common at pools and beaches. Lifeguards were also blindfolded during the competition so they couldn’t assess what was happening before they responded.

Finishing in first place this year: lifeguards from Minnetonka-Shady Oak Beach.

Last year, lifeguards from New Hope finished third in the competition.
