IMAX Screen Coming to Plymouth Movie Theater

Moviegoers will soon have a new place to experience the latest blockbusters on one of the best screens the industry has to offer.

Plymouth Grand 15 is converting its “Extreme Digital Experience” or XDX auditorium into an IMAX screen.

“The screen size is almost 55 feet wide by 30 feet high,” said Michelle Mann, co-owner of Mann Theaters. “You’re not going to get a better picture in clarity, and the sound, and the presentation.”

The $1.2 million project is one of the largest investments in the history of Mann Theaters.

The owners say that as more filmmakers — like Odyssey director Christopher Nolan — have committed to producing films with IMAX equipment, it’s only fitting to offer customers they movies they want to see in a premium format.

“We want to make the investments in bringing people back together,” Mann said. “There’s nothing like seeing a movie in the theater, and people love the biggest and the best, and IMAX is the biggest and the best. We’re excited to bring it to the northwest metro.”

This will be Minnesota’s sixth IMAX screen.

Construction will take about four weeks.

The auditorium will open Oct. 2 with the new Tom Cruise movie “Digger.”
