Getaway Driver in Cooper Basketball Game Attack Pleads Guilty
A Brooklyn Park teen has admitted to his role in a brazen attack at a high school basketball game.
Dursa Mohamed, 18, pleaded guilty to riot and fleeing police in court this week.
The attack occurred on Jan. 28 during a basketball game at Cooper High School.
According to court documents, a group of men arrived at the game and attacked a player on the visiting team’s bench with a tire iron and a knife.
“The victim was treated at the scene and then taken by ambulance to an emergency room,” read the criminal complaint. “It required six staples to close the laceration on his head.”
After the initial attack, players and coaches protected the victim, and the attackers left the gym together.
The suspects got into a car — and police say Mohamed was their getaway driver.
He drove the car away from the scene at a high rate of speed as responding officers gave chase.
After a short distance, Mohamed crashed the car while trying to enter a freeway on-ramp.
He and five other suspects were arrested.
Hennepin County courts expect to sentence Mohamed in June.
