Future Animal Humane Society Pet Clinic ‘A Long Time Coming’

Calling it a “very important milestone,” officials with the Animal Humane Society broke ground Wednesday, Aug. 19, on a new pet clinic.

An expansion of the existing Golden Valley campus, the new clinic will help provide treatment for an additional 10,000 animals per year, officials said.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Chandler Milam, chief advancement officer for the Animal Humane Society. “This new pet clinic is going to help us double the capacity of the work that we do.”

Animal Humane Society officials said the future clinic will get built at a time when finding affordable pet care can be difficult.

“Across our communities, access to high quality vet care has become increasingly challenging for many families,” said Lisa Erickson, board chair of the Animal Humane Society. “It strengthens our ability to meet growing community needs.”

Growing Demand

The Golden Valley campus is one of two Animal Humane Society facilities that provide comprehensive veterinary care.

 The demolition of a storage facility will provide room to build the new 13,000-square-foot, two-story clinic, which will include exam rooms and surgical and dental suites.

The new clinic is expected to open late 2027. Officials said it’s expected to create 30 new jobs.

“As demand grows and costs rise, too many pet owners are faced to make difficult decisions when their beloved companions need care,” said Joy King, CEO of the Animal Humane Society. “That is why expanding access to affordable veterinary care is so important and why this project matters so deeply.”

The Golden Valley clinic expansion supports the Animal Humane Society’s strategic goal of serving 150,000 animals in need by June 30, 2028. Animal Humane Society clinics served 56,000 animals last year alone, said Milam.

The future pet clinic was made possible through donors and philanthropic leaders, including a generous gift from the K.A.H.R. Foundation.
