Event Center To Fill Vacant Brooklyn Center Strip Mall Space
A vacant retail space in Brooklyn Center will soon get new life.
Oh Pretti! Events and Rentals will move into space at Humboldt Square retail center between House of Hui’s restaurant and Scoreboard Pizza.
The business caters to weddings, corporate events and other celebrations, according to its website.
The space was previously occupied by Value Foods African Market, which moved to a larger space nearby.
The Brooklyn Center City Council unanimously approved a conditional use permit for the new business, which should help address what some describe as a “shortage of social gathering spaces in the area.”
“I think that it is very appropriate,” said Council Member Dan Jerzak. Other council members also offered positive feedback at their May 27 meeting.
Oh Pretti! plans to install a commercial kitchen. In addition to hosting weddings and other events, the business will offer custom-designed decorative cakes and luxury furniture rentals, according to city documents.
The business projects to host eight to 12 events per month with increase in frequency during peak seasons. City documents show Oh Pretti! would have enough space to hold more than 100 people, but “would typically host 50 to 75 guests.”
Oh Pretti! would initially employ seven staff members. documents showed.
Its expected hours would be Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
In addition, the business plans to help improve the parking lot’s appearance, city officials said.

Oh Pretti! would take vacant space next to House of Hui’s restaurant.
