Construction of New Crystal Apartment Complex Underway
Construction is officially underway in Crystal on the city’s first new market-rate housing development in more than 40 years.
City leaders and developers recently gathered Tuesday for a ceremonial block-laying event to mark construction progress on the Ember Apartments, a new 178-unit multi-family complex located at the site of a former Wells Fargo on Bass Lake Road.
The project aims to fill a long-standing gap in local housing options. The building will offer a wide mix of floor plans ranging from entry-level studios to two- and three-bedroom apartments designed for families.

The Ember Apartments in Crystal should be complete by September 2027.
“It’s something that truly is needed for the community,” said Robb Lubenow, owner of Yellow Tree Development. “They have some pretty ambitious plans to grow both the neighborhood and surrounding areas, park systems, and we’re—yeah, it’s a pleasure to be on the front end of that.”
Amenities for the new complex will include a club room, rooftop deck, pool area and underground parking.
Crews began site work and demolition in May, and construction is currently moving out of the ground. Developers expect the building to house around 300 residents once fully leased.
Developers say that work on the Ember Apartments should be complete by September 2027.
