Champlin Couple Capture Black Bear Family on Camera
There are more black bear sightings. This time in Champlin, where neighbors just east of Elm Creek Park Reserve caught sight of some black bears on their deck.
A mama bear and her three clubs ventured onto Rob and Paula Dieterle’s deck at around 11 p.m. last Wednesday. The two said the noise woke them up.
Their Blink camera caught the four bears roaming around their deck. Rob said their back yard gets a lot of wildlife, but this was new.
“I looked at my phone just because we have the live feed,” Rob said. “I nudged Paula and I’m like ‘We have bears on our deck!’ It was just like, what is happening?!”
The Dieterles have lived at their Champlin home for 26 years. They say this is the first time they’ve seen bears in their yard firsthand. Rob and Paula said it was exciting to see baby bears from inside their house. The bears spent most of their time playing.
“Literally, it was closer than any zoo exhibit we could see. It was right in front of our door while standing right there. It was probably about 20 minutes of us being able to view them in our yard,” Paula said.
Though one bird feeder and a tree branch dropped in their lawn, Rob and Paula said nothing in their lawn was seriously damaged.
