Brooklyn Park Man Sentenced in Crystal Bar Stabbing
A Brooklyn Park man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after stabbing a man numerous times in a Crystal bar.
Kendrick Dotstry, 52, pleaded guilty last month to second-degree assault in Hennepin County District Court.
Court records show he was initially charged with second-degree murder, but prosecutors later added a second-degree assault charge. The murder charge was dismissed when he entered his guilty plea.
According to the criminal complaint, on March 16, 2024, a Crystal police officer on patrol was flagged down by an employee at Steve O’s Bar and Grill on West Broadway.
The employee said that someone, later identified as Dotstry, had been in a fight and stabbed someone in the bar.
Inside the bar, law enforcement officers found a victim slumped on a bar stool with blood pooling beneath him.
Video surveillance footage shows Dotstry and the victim interact, with Dotstry becoming agitated.
He then puts the victim in a headlock and stabs him 17 times in a span of about 20 seconds.
When he was arrested, Dotstry told police the victim had punched him in the face and denied having a knife.
Dotstry has credit for more than a year of time served and will do his time in the correctional facility in St. Cloud.
