Brooklyn Park Man Accused of Assaulting 12-year-old Brother with Hammer
A child from Brooklyn Park is in critical condition after a brutal domestic assault has likely left him with brain damage.
Faysal Hersi, 21, the victim’s older brother, has been charged in the case.
According to the criminal complaint:
Hersi’s sister called police on Friday, May 16 to report that she’d found her younger brother on the bedroom floor of a Brooklyn Park home with a head wound.
The younger brother told his sister he’d been attacked by Hersi.
Arriving officers found the victim bleeding profusely. Paramedics reported seeing brain matter in his head wound.
He was transported to the hospital for treatment. As of Monday morning, he was unconscious with doctors saying brain damage had likely occurred.
Police searched the residence and found a bloody hammer that had been hid in a recycling bin in the garage, the complaint said.
Meanwhile, family members told police that Hersi and his brother had a history of fights and arguments.
Hersi turned himself in to police late Friday night.
He was booked in the Hennepin County Jail and his bail is set at $500,000.
