Bora Pharmaceuticals Proposes $40M Maple Grove Facility Expansion
Global pharmaceutical manufacturer Bora Pharmaceuticals has plans to expand in Maple Grove, city officials said at a recent council meeting.
The company, which is based in Taiwan, is planning a $40 million expansion at its facility at 6701 Evenstad Dr. N.
That facility is owned by subsidiary Upsher-Smith Laboratories, which Bora acquired in 2024.
According to Maple Grove officials, the expansion would use 15,000 square feet of existing space to build out additional manufacturing and packaging capabilities.
“So no additional buildout of the outside of the building, but investing on the inside of the building,” explained Jesse Anderson, Maple Grove’s assistant community and economic development director, at the Sept. 8 city council meeting. “There would be new manufacturing equipment, new technology equipment.”
The expansion is expected to create up to 60 new full-time jobs with an average wage of $44 per hour over a three-year period, read city council documents. The new jobs would include operations, professional and management roles.
To assist in the job growth, the company is applying for Job Creation Fund (JCF) and Minnesota Investment Fund (MIF) dollars through the state. The Maple Grove City Council approved an application to the state on behalf of the company at its Sept. 8 meeting.
According to state Department of Employment and Economic Development documents, Bora would receive a $500,000 forgivable MIF loan and $800,000 in JCF dollars.
In 2023, Upsher-Smith completed a 270,000-square-foot expansion of its Maple Grove facility.
Besides Maple Grove, Bora has facilities in Taiwan and Ontario, Canada.
