Plymouth Relies on Thousands of Volunteers to Help City Events
City of Plymouth Volunteer Linda Carlson said she was looking for a get involved almost 20 years ago.
“I was widowed young with two young children, and when the last one went away to school and i was an empty nester, I wanted to give back,” said Carlson.

City of Plymouth Volunteer Linda Carlson, right, talks with a visitor during Primavera recently.
She’s volunteered, along with more than 2,000 other people, for the city in a variety of settings at public events year-round. But that’s not all they help with.
“They work in all different departments. Most of our volunteer work is in the parks department,” said City of Plymouth Volunteer Coordinator Steve Frankhouser. “They also do clerical work as well.”
Frankhouser took over for Jackie Maas when she retired after 18 years. He worked alongside her for about a month and a half to learn the ropes.
“Huge shoes to fill,” Frankhouser said. “She made a connection with almost all of the volunteers across the city. It just goes to show what an amazing person she truly is.”
