Osseo’s Music in the Park Offers Youth Activities, Too

Under the hot late-June sun on a Tuesday afternoon, Osseo Middle School teacher Alex Wallner carefully hid 100 plastic cold coins around Boerboom Park for kids to find hours later during the city’s Music in the Park event. It’s all part of Wallner’s part-time summer gig with the city.

“They hired me on because they needed some structured youth programming in-between the band when they get done and the movie, which doesn’t start until dark goes down,” said Wallner. “The focus of my role is to offer some open house-style programming for youth when they show up here, so a little bit different crowd every night, different activities every night, and just giving them some offerings to enjoy themselves.”

The city hosts bands every Tuesday night during June, July, and into August to play starting at 7:00 p.m., followed by a movie on the big screen. 

“We get everyone out here from the local community. They don’t have to be from Osseo, but most of them are,” said Wallner.

The kids lined up to turn in the plastic coins they’d found around the park, and Wallner handed out prizes.

“It’s good to be back in town doing stuff for the families here,” he said.
