New Hope Mayor Says Water Meter Replacement Is “Really Important”
New Hope Mayor John Elder expressed his desire for as many residents to complete the switch to new water meters as possible.
“Having the updated water meters helps us really drill down on how much water is being used by which person and this investment in this tool helps serve the citizens, too,” Mayor Elder told CCX Media’s Dave Kiser during a taping of Mayor’s Minutes.
The City of New Hope is replacing some 6,000 water meters with new models that allow for wireless data readings.
The city began replacing the meters for free in 2025.
One feature of the new water meters is the ability to transmit real-time volume usage data to the city via a transmitter on top of the city water tower near Cooper High School.
“If they have an issue, a question, or a problem, we’re able to give them real-time information,” said Elder. “It’s really important. The old meters have simply run out of their life cycle.”
