New Hope 2027 Budget: Single-Family Homeowners Could See Tax Decrease
Like many families, the City of New Hope is also seeing costs grow.
“For us, it’s going to be cost of materials and cost of goods in order to provide the services we do,” says New Hope City Manager Reece Bertholf.
To cover those higher costs, New Hope is proposing a 4.99% municipal levy increase in 2027.

City Manager Reece Bertholf explains what that generally means for single-family homes.
“So there are variances and nuances to the math in the background that drive how we pay our taxes at the end of the day,” says Bertholf. “But I am happy to report that right now, single-family home owners should expect to see a very neutral tax bill compared to last year and the probability is it will be less.”
Bertholf expects it could be about a 2.2% decrease in municipal taxes for single-family homeowners.
However, the story is different for commercial and multi-family residential homes.
“We saw a slightly larger increase in commercial and multi-family residential than we did last year, so they pick up more of the tax burden and less is applied to a homeowner,” says Bertholf.
Despite the levy increase, Bertholf says the city is fiscally responsible.
“Please hear me loud and clear, when I tell you that we are on great financial footing, says Bertholf. “We are immensely grateful for the continued investment in the community through your local government, through your tax dollars, and we stand ready to execute the stewardship that we have proven over the years for many years into the future.”
The public is welcome to share their input about the budget at regular city council meetings during the public comment portion.
There will also be a public hearing on the budget on December 14th.
