Mayor’s Minutes: Maple Grove’s Mark Steffenson
Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson spoke recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about where the city stands with its legislative priorities as the session winds down in St. Paul for the year.
“I think we’re very hopeful that our 169/Elm Creek Boulevard gets some type of funding,” said Steffenson. “I think we’re hopeful that all of our legislation gets somewhere.”
Steffenson also said he and city leaders felt like the push to extend the tax increment financing for development of the gravel mining area was well-received in the state House of Representatives, despite the power-sharing situation.
Community Center Update
Steffenson said work continues on the expansion of the Maple Grove Community Center.
“The (third) ice arena is up. They’re working on the inside now,” he said. “We’re on schedule for the opening in the fall, just like we’ve planned. It’ll be a beautiful new arena with a parking lot on the west end.”
Plans continue to come together on the next phase of the sales tax-funded project, which includes redevelopment of the adjoining Life Time Fitness space.
