Mayor’s Minutes: Brooklyn Center’s April Graves
Brooklyn Center Mayor April Graves spoke recently with CCX Media’s Dave Kiser about the city’s 2025 legislative priorities and also networking options she continues to seek on a national and international level.
Mayor Graves said the city’s legislative goals revolve around state bonding money and an on-going discussion about a major road reconstruction project in the north metro.
“A lot of the time, our legislative priorities remain the same year after year,” said Graves. “There are some things we want to really highlight, one of them being bonding dollars for a new public works garage, which is really needed. It’s in bad repair, and there’s really just not enough room for the cars there.”
She also said the city wants to stay in the mix when it comes to discussions about the future of Highway 252.
“We also made sure to highlight our requests around the 252 discussion with MNDOT and making sure that equity for the residents of Brooklyn Center are considered,” she said.
Graves returned recently from a trip to a meeting of the National League of Cities.
“It’s an opportunity to learn as well as network with other local elected officials, attend different trainings, find out about resources you can bring back to the city related to infrastructure as well as any number of different topics,” said Graves.
She also found out more about the Strong Cities Network.
