The Osseo softball team is having a good season so far. The Orioles put 13 runs on the board despite very cold conditions Thursday on the way to a 13-3 win over Spring Lake Park.

Keelie Sorensen played three sports at Park Center High School, and works in the athletic department at the school. Now she is the Pirates new head girls soccer coach.

Adapted softnall tournament this weekend at Cooper
The Robbinsdale-Hopkins-Mound Westonka adapted sports program will host the annual Lloyd Olson adapted softball tournament this Friday and Saturday at Cooper High School. This is the fourth year for the tournament and features eight teams. Play begins Friday afternoon at Cooper.

Burnham wins Big Ten Player of the Year
Wayzata High School graduate Sarah Burnham earned the Big Ten Player of the Year award in women’s golf Tuesday. The Michigan State University junior helped the Spartans win the Big Ten championship Sunday and set a school scoring record for stroke average this season. Burnham graduated from Wayzata in 2014.

Wayzata synchronized swimmers aiming for another title
The Wayzata synchronized swimming team will try to extend an amazing streak this season. The Trojans will take aim at their 11th consecutive state championship next month.

Pirates earn first softball win
Park Center scored three runs in the first inning and three more in the third on the way to an 8-2 win over Cooper in prep softball Monday. The Pirates (1-5) also scored two runs in the sixth inning on their way to beating the Hawks (0-4) who are still looking for their first win of the season.

Breck tops TriMAC for first lacrosse win
The Breck boys lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season defeating the TriMAC co-op team 17-6. The Mustangs had lost its first three games of the year.

Wayzata tops Hopkins to stay unbeaten in baseball
The Wayzata baseball team graduated some good talent from last year's state championship team, but the Trojans are looking strong again. They had 13 hits on the way to a 5-1 win over Hopkins Monday. Wayzata is now 5-0 this season.

Maple Grove girls lacrosse tops Osseo-Park Center
Maple Grove defeated Osseo-Park Center 10-6 in girls lacrosse in a match-up of section finalists from a year ago. This year, the Crimson held a 5-3 halftime lead and scored the final three goals of the game.

Hopkins blanks Maple Grove in softball
Hopkins scored three runs in the top of the first inning and Parker Stoddard hit a solo homerun in the fifth inning as the Royals shut out Maple Grove 5-0 in a non-conference softball game. MaKenzie Merritt pitched a shutout for the unbeaten Royals (5-0).

Maple Grove has plenty of new faces in girls lacrosse
The Maple Grove girls lacrosse team reached the state tournament last season. Just a handful of players return from that team, meaning a lot of young players are in the lineup.

Champlin Park set to co-op with Coon Rapids in girls hockey
Champlin Park will become part of a co-op for the first time since 1996 in girls hockey, starting next season. Coon Rapids, which had been paired with Spring Lake Park, will now team up with Champlin Park.

West Lutheran softball learning on the fly
The West Lutheran softball program has been pretty strong the past few seasons. The Warriors have a lot of young players in the lineup this spring and are 2-4 so far this spring.

Rain doesn't slow Champlin Park in girls lacrosse
The Champlin Park girls lacrosse team battled the elements and Spring Lake Park Wednesday evening. The Rebels beat the Panthers 11-3 on a sloppy field to improve to 2-0.

Wayzata falls in boys lacrosse
Wayzata and Eden Prairie reached the state semifinals in boys lacrosse last season. The Trojans and Eagles met for the first time this season Tuesday evening, with Eden Prairie winning 9-4.

Osseo tops Buffalo in baseball pitcher's duel
John Bezdicek of Osseo pitched a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to outduel Buffalo's Tyler Brown as the Orioles beat the Bison 1-0 in baseball Monday. Osseo improved to 4-0 with the win.

Pitch count rules now in effect for high school baseball
Pitchers in Minnesota high school baseball are now limited on the number of pitches they can throw in a single game and how much rest is mandated for pitchers in-between games. Pitchers are allowed to throw a maximum of 105 pitches in a game, 115 in the post-season.

Benilde tops Cooper in baseball
Benilde-St. Margaret’s scored five runs in the third inning as the Red Knights topped Cooper 10-5 in a Metro West Conference baseball game. Peyton James drove in four runs for the Red Knights.

Hopkins outlasts Armstrong in rainy baseball game
Morgan Holmes got Hopkins started with a three-run homer in the first inning and the Royals went on to beat Armstrong 7-6 in a rainy high school baseball game Wednesday.

Maple Grove athletes sign for college
Four Maple Grove High School seniors signed their national letters of intent for college athletics Wednesday morning at a ceremony at the school. Breanna Blesi will play women’s hockey at Wisconsin; Sam Huff signed with Minnesota for men’s hockey; Alex Miley will run men’s cross country at Duke and Parker Brown signed for men’s swimming at South Dakota State.

The Champlin Park and Maple Grove baseball teams each played in the state tournament last season, with Champlin Park finishing as class AAAA runner up. Both teams have a lot of new faces in the lineup this season.

Will Oberg and Matt Bohlke combined on a shutout as the Wayzata baseball team blanked Hopkins 4-0 Tuesday. The game was played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, in its first year of hosting high school baseball games.

Armstrong softball excited to build on 2016 finish
The Armstrong softball team finished as runner-up to Hopkins in 2016 in Section 6AAAA, one season after winning just one game. The Falcons start this year needing to replace six starters from a year ago and hoping to improve on their 3-10 conference record from a year ago.

Park Center duo play in girls All-Star basketball
Mikayla Hayes and Ann Simonet of Park Center played in the Minnesota Girls All-Star basketball series Saturday at Carleton College in Northfield. The Pirates duo played in the second game for the White team, coached by Park Center's Chris VanderHyde and Luke Swedberg.

The Park Center baseball team won just four games last season, but the Pirates lost a lot of close games against good teams. Learning to win those tight contests is a key for Park Center this spring.

McKinley Wright found out he'd been selected as Minnesota's Mr. Basketball right after his Champlin Park team lost in the state title game, but Thursday he got to celebrate the award with teammates, friends, family and staff at Champlin Park.

VanderHyde steps down as Park Center coach
Chris VanderHyde coached girls basketball for four seasons at Park Center High School, winning 99 games and four section titles. VanderHyde has resigned to take an assistant coaching position with the women’s basketball team at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

A young Wayzata varsity softball team has a new head coach this spring. Former Eagan assistant Kelsey Anderson takes over a team with just a few returning varsity players from a year ago. The Trojans, winners of eight games in 2016, open the season April 13th against Hopkins.

All-star weekend for prep basketball stars
Theo John of Champlin Park and Maple Grove’s Tywhon Pickford helped lead the Blue All-Stars to a 2-0 record and the championship at the Minnesota Coaches Association All-Star Basketball Series. Forty of the state’s top seniors took part in the four-game, two-day event.

Local skaters compete at Ted Brill Great 8 hockey
The Ted Brill Great 8 boys all-star hockey tournament had a new twist this season.
In addition to senior players, top juniors born in 1999 also competed in the eight team tournament.

Edina outskates Wayzata in boys hockey
Garrett Wait scored three goals and added an assist in leading the Edina boys hockey team to a 6-3 win over Wayzata. The Hornets scored two goals in each period. The loss was the fifth in six games for the Trojans.
