With nine teams in Section 6AA for boys hockey, the bottom two seeds, No. 8 Armstrong-Cooper and No. 9 Hopkins had a play-in game Tuesday night. Armstrong-Cooper won 3-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.

After losing their first meeting with Osseo this winter, the Maple Grove boys basketball team got a little revenge Tuesday. The Crimson won 61-54 to split the season series with their rivals.

The Maranatha Christian Academy girls basketball team is now in Class AA. The Mustangs faced Holy Family in a matchup of top ten teams and Maranatha came away with a 70-65 win Monday night.

Maple Grove wrestlers fall in section to STMA
Maple Grove has had one of its best seasons in wrestling, but the Crimson proved to be no match for longtime power St. Michael-Albertville in the Section 5AAA championship match. The Knights beat the Crimson 54-12.

Cooper girls basketball wins Metro West title
The Cooper girls basketball team, top-ranked in class AAA, beat Chanhassen 70-40 to clinch the Metro West Conference title. Sisters Aja and Kierra Wheeler scored 14 points apiece for the Hawks. Cooper is now 22-2 this season.

Hopkins girls basketball hands Wayzata first loss
The Hopkins girls basketball team got a little revenge for a January loss to Wayzata by handing the Trojans their first loss of the season 69-38. All-state guard Paige Bueckers scored 28 points to lead the Royals in scoring.

Wayzata's McCollor and Trojan Boys Win State Nordic Titles
Junior Mara McCollor of Wayzata won the girls individual pursuit title at the state Nordic ski meet, while the Wayzata boys had three racers finish in the top five on their way to capturing the team title.

Champlin Park captured the team title at the Section 5AA gymnastics meet at Irondale Thursday night. The Rebels scored 147.65 points to edge defending champion Maple Grove for the title.

Totino-Grace wrestlers ready for section meet
The Totino-Grace wrestling team will compete for their sixth consecutive Section 5AA team championship Saturday when the Eagles host the section meet. Grace carries a 17-4 record in to the post-season and a # 11 ranking in Class 2A. First round action starts at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Champlin Park’s gymnastics team scored a season high 146.875 to close out the regular season with a win over Irondale. The Rebels’ Chaney Neu won the all-around with a score of 37.875. Champlin Park will be part of a strong field at the Section 5AA meet Thursday at Irondale High School.

The Wayzata girls hockey team skated past Rochester Lourdes 3-1 Friday night. Coupled with a 6-0 shutout over Owatonna on Saturday, the Trojans are now 17-7-1 on the season and seeded third for the upcoming Section 6AA playoffs.

The Cooper girls basketball team pulled away in the second half and defeated St. Louis Park 77-48 in Metro West Conference play. The Hawks are the state’s top-ranked team in Class 3A. Andrea Tribble scored 21 points to lead the Hawks (16-2) in scoring.

Centennial used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Maple Grove 62-55 in a Northwest Suburban Conference girls’ basketball crossover division game. Four Centennial players scored in double figures while Autumn Mlinar netted 17 points to lead the Crimson (15-4).

Garrett Wait scored three goals and added an assist in leading the Edina boys hockey team to a 6-3 win over Wayzata. The Hornets scored two goals in each period. The loss was the fifth in six games for the Trojans.
