Wayzata holds off upset bid from Park Center in girls BB
Wayzata's girls basketball team has faced some tough teams in the past week.
They scored a huge win over Hopkins last week, and Thursday they had to rally for an overtime win at Park Center.

The Champlin Park/Coon Rapids girls hockey team is in its first season as a co-op. The team is 12-6-2 and tied for first in the West Division of the Northwest Suburban Conference.

Totino-Grace skates to win over AC Wings
The Totino-Grace girls hockey team defeated host Armstrong-Cooper 5-3 in a Northwest West Suburban Conference West Division game Tuesday night. The game was the first of five straight road games for T-G to close out the regular season and broke the Wings’ two-game winning streak.

Cooper girls race past Jefferson
The Cooper girls basketball team, ranked No. 1 in the state Class AAA poll, jumped out to a 40-19 halftime lead on the way to a 70-42 win over Bloomington Jefferson Tuesday.

Hopkins boys hand Wayzata a loss
Wayzata beat Hopkins to reach the state boys basketball tournament last season, but the Royals took round one of this season’s series against Wayzata, winning 77-70 Friday night. Five Hopkins players scored at least 12 points in the win.

Armstrong holds on for Robbinsdale Rumble win
Armstrong built a lead over district rival Cooper in the Robbinsdale Rumble wrestling match, only to see the Hawks rally to take the lead. Armstrong went back in front after a forfeit at 220 pounds, and they just needed to avoid being pinned in the heavyweight match to hold off the Hawks 33-31.

Wayzata rallies past Hopkins for big girls BB win
No. 3-ranked Hopkins dominated the first half against No. 2-ranked Wayzata in a big girls basketball showdown Friday, but the Trojans turned the tables in the second half, rallying for a 70-66 win to stay undefeated.

Rebels rally to tie Armstrong-Cooper in boys hockey
In a key boys hockey game in the Northwest Suburban Conference's West division, Champlin Park rallied to tie Armstrong-Cooper 3-3 Thursday night. The Rebels scored twice in the last six and a half minutes to force overtime.

The Wayzata wrestling team recorded 11 pins on the way to a 66-15 win over Hopkins. The Trojans have a key Lake Conference match ahead next week when they face Minnetonka.

Autumn Mlinar scored 22 points and Katrina Theis added 16 as the Maple Grove girls basketball team routed Irondale 81-38 Thursday night. The Crimson are now 11-3, 6-1 in the Northwest Suburban Conference with the win.

The Park Center boys basketball team won its second straight game and eighth overall on the season by defeating Armstrong 76-52. The Pirates’ Jarius Cook scored 25 points to lead all scorers.

The Wayzata girls hockey team scored three second-period goals to break open a close game on the way to a 6-2 win over Hopkins/Park in a Lake Conference game. The win is the fourth in the past five games for the Trojans.

Ana Aguado heads to U of M for soccer
Armstrong soccer goalie Ana Aguado graduated early from Armstrong and will start classes Tuesday at the University of Minnesota. The four-time all Northwest Suburban Conference goalie signed her National Letter of Intent with the Gophers and will begin off-season training with the team next week.

Osseo downs Champlin Park in boys BB battle
Champlin Park beat Osseo in the Section 5AAAA championship game in boys basketball last season. The Rebels hosted the Orioles Tuesday night, with Champlin Park rallying to force overtime before the Orioles dominated the extra session to score a 69-59 win.

Several of the state's top gymnastics teams were in Brooklyn Park Saturday at the MGGOA meet at Park Center High School. Class A power Detroit Lakes won the top division at the meet with Maple Grove finishing fourth.

Maple Grove has a pretty solid lineup this winter in wrestling. The Crimson beat longtime power Totino-Grace 43-30 Thursday night as part of a quad meet at Maple Grove High School.

Park Center freshman Annika Lee won the all-around title with a score of 36.0 helping lead the Park Center gymnastics team to a 127.85-118.85 win over Osseo/Fridley. Lee won all four events in the meet.

The Champlin Park girls basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat Anoka 58-45 Wednesday night. The Rebels (8-2) were led in scoring by Erica Hicks who netted 21 points. The Rebels host Sioux Falls Washington Friday night.

In a game that had a little bit of everything, Osseo upset Park Center 60-59 in overtime in a boys basketball thriller Wednesday night. Chike Okonkwo hit the winning free throw with 1.8 seconds left in overtime.

3rd-ranked Maranatha beats Heights in rout
The Maranatha Christian Academy girls basketball team jumped out to a 28-2 lead Tuesday night on the way to a 73-22 win over Columbia Heights Tuesday night. The Mustangs (5-2) are ranked 3rd in Class 2A and play at unbeaten Wayzata Wednesday.

Blake beats Breck in girls hockey
The Blake girls hockey team, ranked first in Class 2A, defeated rival Breck 3-1 Tuesday. The Mustangs are ranked third in Class A. The teams will play again at Blake on January 19th. The Bears outshot the Mustangs 30-12.

Plymouth's Pannek, Cameranesi make U.S. women's hockey team
Two young women's hockey players from Plymouth will play for Team USA at the upcoming Olympic Games in South Korea. Kelly Pannek and Dani Cameranesi, former teammates at the University of Minnesota, were named to the U.S. team.

Wayzata girls win Hill-Murray tournament to stay unbeaten
It's been a great start to the season for the Wayzata girls basketball team. The Trojans made it through the 2017 portion of the schedule without a loss by beating host Hill-Murray in the championship game of the Pioneers' holiday tournament.

The Champlin Park girls basketball team rallied in the second half to beat fourth-ranked Cretin-Derham Hall 66-57 at the Park Center Holiday Showcase. Erica Hicks led the Rebels (7-2) in scoring with 26 points.

Pirates split in two games at St. Cloud
Dain Dainja scored 22 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as the Park Center boys basketball team defeated Woodbury 72-55 on the second day of the Granite City Classic in St. Cloud. The Pirates lost 62-59 to defending state Class 4A champion Apple Valley in their opening tournament game.

Armstrong-Cooper is hosting a holiday girls hockey tournament for the 22nd straight year.
The Wings lost a 1-0 game to Willmar in the tournament quarterfinals Thursday night at New Hope Arena.

Breck boys, girls hockey teams win holiday openers
The Breck hoys hockey team edged Buffalo 4-3 while the Mustangs’ girls defeated Grand Rapids/Greenway 6-1 as both teams opened play in holiday tournaments. The Breck girls are playing in the Walser Tournament in Edina while the boys team is in the Silver Division of the Schwan Cup in Blaine.

Brady Swanstrom scored 12 seconds into the game as the Champlin Park boys hockey team defeated Spring Lake Park 5-0 Thursday night. Swanstrom’s early goal marked the only scoring until the third period when the Rebels scored four times.

The Totino-Grace boys hockey team broke a four-game winless streak as the Eagles defeated Osseo 5-1. Branden Lee scored a goal and added two assists for Totino-Grace. Neither team will play a game again until January.

Mannon McMahon scored all three goals and Lucy Morgan made 19 saves in net leading the Maple Grove girls hockey team to a 3-0 win over Anoka. The victory broke a three game conference winless streak for the Crimson.

Maple Grove pulls off miracle comeback
The Maple Grove football team looked to be on the way out of the state class 6A playoffs. That's until an amazing rally carried the Crimson to a 29-27 shocker over St. Michael-Albertville. Maple Grove scored 19 points in the game's final minute to shock the Knights.

Edina outskates Wayzata in boys hockey
Garrett Wait scored three goals and added an assist in leading the Edina boys hockey team to a 6-3 win over Wayzata. The Hornets scored two goals in each period. The loss was the fifth in six games for the Trojans.
