Trojans win 3rd straight in girls hockey
The Wayzata girls hockey team won for the third time in a row, skating past Anoka 2-1 Tuesday. Maddie McCollins and Alexa Ocel scored Wayzata’s goals. The Trojans (3-1) play their first home game of the season Tuesday against Holy Angels. Stephanie Garvis made 25 saves for the Trojans and has allowed just one goal in three starts in net.

Wayzata, Maple Grove set for Turkey Trot hockey
It's become a Thanksgiving weekend tradition. The Wayzata boys hockey team hosts the Turkey Trot tournament Friday and Saturday at Plymouth Ice Center. Maple Grove is the other local team in the field, along with Holy Family and Edina.

New coach leads Park Center girls basketball
The Park Center girls basketball team will have to replace three longtime starters who graduated, and they also have a new head coach. Barb Metcalf takes over the Pirates after coaching at West Fargo, North Dakota.

Robins fall 2-1 in adapted soccer final
Dakota United held off a strong Robbinsdale-Hopkins team to win the PI Division championship at the state adapted soccer tournament. The loss was the first of the season for the Robins. Marcus Brady scored the lone goal of the game for the Robins (11-1).

Wayzata places 3rd at state swimming
Wayzata’s 4 x 200 medley relay team and 100 freestyle racer Jordan McGinty both placed second helping the Trojans to a 3rd place overall finish at the Class AA state girls swimming and diving championships. Breck finished fourth in Class A. Breck’s Saylor Hawkins won the diving competition.

Maple Grove blanks Breck in girls hockey
Goalie Lucy Morgan made 27 saves and Tristana Tatur scored the only goal of the game as Maple Grove shut out Breck 1-0 in girls hockey. Both teams are ranked in the top 10 of their respective classes. Ally Frantzick finished with 20 saves for Breck.

Park Center wins adapted soccer champioship again
Philip Worzie scored six goals to lead Park Center to an 11-4 win over Chaska in the championship game of the CI Division at the state adapted soccer tournament. The title is the third straight in soccer won by the Pirates.

Maple Grove's run ends in football semifinals
There was no late heroics this time as the Maple Grove football team fell to unbeaten Eden Prairie 26-0 in the state class 6A semifinals Thursday night. The Eagles dominated the second half after leading 6-0 at halftime.

Hopkins-Park tops Jefferson in girls hockey
The Hopkins-St. Louis Park girls hockey team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 5-0 shutout of Bloomington Jefferson Thursday night. Kylie Hanley scored two goals and an assist for the Royals.

Wayzata girls hockey blanks St. Cloud
Alexa Ocel scored two goals and Maddie McCollins added three assists helping Wayzata to a 6-0 shutout of St. Cloud in girls hockey. The win gives the Trojans a 1-1 record on the season. The team plays Benilde-St. Margaret’s Saturday in St. Louis Park.

Playing a lot of young players last season, the Wayzata girls hockey team struggled to a 10-17 record. Most of that team is back, now with another year of experience. The Trojans are 0-1 heading into their Thursday night game against St. Cloud at the Coon Rapids Ice Center.

Chloe Corbin scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Maple Grove girls hockey team a 3-2 win over Minnetonka in the season opener for both teams. Mannon McMahon assisted on two goals for the Crimson.

The Maple Grove football team looked to be on the way out of the state class 6A playoffs. That's until an amazing rally carried the Crimson to a 29-27 shocker over St. Michael-Albertville. Maple Grove scored 19 points in the game's final minute to shock the Knights.

The Champlin Park volleyball team swept Stillwater while Hopkins rallied from down two sets to beat Forest Lake in five as both the Rebels and Royals won in consolation play at the State Class 3A tournament. Champlin Park and Hopkins play each other Saturday morning at 9:00 for fifth place.

The NCAA's first day for future college athletes to sign their National Letter of Intent was Wednesday, marking a big day for some local high school athletes. Among the sports in which student-athletes could sign include basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, swimming and diving, golf, lacrosse and volleyball.

Champlin Park's football team had an up-and-down regular season, going 4-4 with injuries taking a big toll. The Rebels played well in the snow in the opening round of the playoffs last week, beating Mounds View 28-0. Champlin Park plays at top-ranked Eden Prairie Friday night.

The Totino-Grace boys soccer team won the state Class A title Thursday. The Eagles beat St. Thomas Academy 1-0 at U.S. Bank Stadium. It's the first state championship in boys soccer for Grace since 2004.

Hopkins, the top-seeded team in the Section 6AAA volleyball tournament, swept Edina while Benilde-St. Margaret’s defeated Armstrong three sets to one as the Royals and Red Knights move into the section championship match Saturday at 12 noon at Cooper High School.

St. Michael-Albertville outlasted Maple Grove in a five-set thriller while top-seeded Champlin Park swept Rogers in the semifinals of the Section 5AAA volleyball tournament. The Knights and the Rebels play for the Section 5AAA championship Thursday at 7:00 pm at Osseo High School.

The top-ranked Wayzata girls soccer team lost its first match of the season Tuesday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Eagan in the semifinals of the Class AA tournament. Megan Prazich scored the only goal for the Trojans (16-1-3) who will now play for third place Thursday morning at 8:00 am.

Garrett Wait scored three goals and added an assist in leading the Edina boys hockey team to a 6-3 win over Wayzata. The Hornets scored two goals in each period. The loss was the fifth in six games for the Trojans.
