If you need a break from the sun, the Robbin Gallery on 42nd Street in Robbinsdale is open with its latest show in time for the city's 69th annual Whiz Bang Days.
“This is one of two members only shows that we do in the course of the year,” said Robbin Gallery President Jeanne Johnson.
It is the Robbin Gallery’s Whiz Bang Art Show coinciding with Robbinsdale’s Whiz Bang Days, which are in full swing through Sunday, July 9.
There are currently 55 members in the Robbin Gallery and the high quality and diversity of the work displayed might surprise you.
“We have earthenware pottery, we have calligraphy books, we have fiber art, we have collages, wool felting, photography, of course, and oil painting, acrylics, digital masters of photography, all kinds of really incredible talents,” said Johnson.
The digital photography artwork of John Niemi is worth a closer look. Niemi takes an image he shoots with the color qualities he wants to work with, then goes through a long process of massaging the image through countless digital processes to arrive at something entirely new.
Although this is a members show and all the works you see are done by members of the Robbin Gallery, you don’t have to be an artist to become a member and support the Robbin Gallery.
“You just have maybe a passion for the media and the creativity that people have and enjoy seeing the talent that people have and what comes into this gallery,” said Johnson.
The Whiz Bang Show is full of color, fun and on display through July 29.
In addition to the Whiz Bang Art Show inside the gallery, there will be the annual "Art on the Lawn" fine art and crafts sale on Saturday, July 8, from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m.
