Wayzata advances to boys basketball semifinals
Wayzata hadn't been to the state boys basketball tournament since 1959, and the Trojans hoped to make the most of their opportunity this season after qualifying by beating longtime nemesis Hopkins in the Section 6AAAA title game.
Wayzata came into the tournament with a 26-3 record an faced 27-2 Lakeville North in the quarterfinals.

After trailing by seven points at halftime, Wayzata battled back to take the lead down the stretch.

After the Panthers Jalen Lucas hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 65-65 and a simultaneous foul was called on the Trojans, Nathan Reuvers briefly gave Lakeville North the lead by hitting one of two free throws.

But Gavin Baumgartner and Jacob Beening each converted two clutch free throws as Wayzata pulled out the 69-66 win.

The Trojans will play top seed Champlin Park in the semifinals Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.

You can see the Wayzata-Lakeville North game in its entirety Thursday morning at 10:30 on CCX Sports channels 12 & 799 in the northwest suburbs and online at www.ccxmedia.org
