Save money on used books
When Half Price Books in Crystal closes its doors in mid-April, readers will be left with one less option to buy used books.
But there are still ways to buy local used books.

Friends of the Plymouth Library Book Sale

Six times a year, the Friends of the Plymouth Library sell donated books to benefit library programs.

"We have thousands of books, adult and children book and we draw people from all over the state of Minnesota," says Cathy Fischer, a volunteer who helps with the sale. "The most we would ever charge for a hard cover book is $2, so you bet it’s a money saver. If you love books, this is a great place to come."

The next book sale is on Saturday, March 11, at the Plymouth Library. The sale is open to the general public at 10 a.m. and you can find the best deals the last hour of the sale from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. when a bag of books will only cost you $5.

Arc’s Value Village

Sorting through stacks of books at thrift shops can be intimidating and time consuming, but volunteers spend time organizing the selection at Arc’s Value Village much like a book store. Fiction books are alphabetized by author and nonfiction books are grouped by category.

"We have a little bit of everything when it comes to books, and we also keep it very well categorized, so it’s easier to shop," says Theresa Muñoz. "If you are looking for a specific book, it’s easy to find."

Bargains are easy to find too, with paperbacks going for $0.79 and hardcovers for $2.49. On Mondays during March, stores in Brooklyn Center and New Hope are promoting a "Media Monday" flash sale with all books and media at 50 percent off. Plus, the store just started bulk-book pricing offering deals if you buy several books at once.
