After surviving a scare from Park Center Tuesday night, the Champlin Park boys basketball team was sharp Thursday in dismantling defending state Class AAAA champion Hopkins 99-79.
The Rebels grabbed an early lead and built it to double figures before Hopkins battled back. Champlin Park led 43-32 at halftime and kept the lead in double figures throughout the second half.
McKinley, a Dayton signee, was super for the Rebels, scoring 27 points with 10 assists and 10 rebounds. Brian Smith and Marcus Hill had 16 points each for Champlin Park.
The Rebels improved to 14-0 with the win and solidified their grip on the top spot in the state rankings.
