Jason and Julie Beaver can talk candidly about money.
"We didn’t know where our money was going. We were just spending. When we didn’t have a plan, the money just seemed to flutter away," says Jason Beaver.
The couple wasn’t missing any payments, but they knew they were one disaster away from major money issues. So they attended Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University, a nine-week course that teaches how to create a budget, eliminate debt and live financially free.
"We have made a complete 180. It has helped us talk about hard things and gotten us on the same page with money and with life," says Julie Beaver.
The Beavers even went a step further, becoming coordinators for Financial Peace University and financial counselors. They will lead another session on money management starting Jan. 15 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley.
"We’ve worked with people who have six digits of debt to people who are debt free already and are doing a good job with finances and wanted some tools of how do I do a better job?" says Julie.
The class walks you through the process to better money management and having financial peace, but Jason says one of the biggest lessons is to encourage people to live by a budget.
"Work a budget," says Jason. "Make sure you are always working a budget and you are reconciling a budget, so you know where every dollar is going."
Enrollment in Financial Peace University costs $93 for a family. You receive all the materials, plus the opportunity to attend other Financial Peace University workshops for the rest of your life. You can enroll online at www.calvary.org/fpu.
